December 6th 2008 - A Few of Her Favorite Things

Alicia has a lot of things she likes to look at and listen to. Here are a few of them:
Kitchen Wallpaper- Alicia has had a lot of trouble controlling the movement of her eyes since she was born. It was one of the first things that concerned us with Alicia's health. It has therefore been such a positive development that Alicia loves to look at the wallpaper in the kitchen. It is a latte colored wallpaper with silver swirls running down the wall. As light or sunlight hits it (when there is sunlight in Sweden) the colors will vary. Alicia goes crazy now when she is sitting in the kitchen looking at the wallpaper. Her eyes get huge and she lets out hysterical laughs, making Linda and I laugh as well. She can do this for a very long time.
Winnie the Pooh (Nalle Pooh in Swedish)- Winnie is a gift that Alicia got from her grandparents on her mother's side. Winnie is about 12 inches tall and has many fun and exciting talents. He sings songs such as Incy Wincy Spider (Imse vimse spindel in Swedish), Old McDonald had a Farm, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Blinka lilla stjärna), If Your Happy and You know It (Klappa händerna) and so on. He also tells 8 short stories about his friends` adventures. Some of his friends include Tigger (Tigger), Piglet (Nasse), Owl (Uggla), Rabbit (Kanin), and Eeyore (Ior). When you push a button Winnie starts talking. His mouth actually moves and he rocks a little from side to side. When Alicia hears the song or story she is on her play mat. If she is on her stomach she usually lifts her head up and looks right at Winnie and starts cooing. She does not know how to push the buttons yet, but it will come later.
The Electrical Fish Tank: The fish tank is also located on Alicia's play mat next to Winnie. It was given to her by her grandparents on her Dad's side. The fish tank is an electrical toy that lights up and has a scene of tropical fish in blue water, which continuously rotate around the tank. The blue light from the tank seems to be soothing for her to just look at and the reoccurring scene gives her some predictability so she doesn't have to concentrate too much. She especially enjoys looking at the tank when she has her pacifier in her mouth and she is getting ready to nod off for a little nap.

I apologize for not checking out my neice's website for awhile!!! I am soooooo inspired by all she is doing. I loved the pictures of Alicia in her sled. She is sitting up and smiling and just soooooo beautiful!
Love to all of you and a big, big kiss to Alicia.

The first thing that came to my mind when you mentioned her liking to look at the fish swim around is that you have a fisherwoman in the making. Let me explain. Ross, Uncle Craig and myself love to watch the fish. At times, when I'm fishing off the beach, I sit in my chair and doze off much like Alicia does! It is obvious she is GTF...Gifted and Talented Fisherwoman!

    Love,

Well it looks like Alicia is her father's daugher. She definitly got the staring at wallpaper from her dad who likes to get lost in Kory's kitchen wallpaper. Glad to see her eyes are getting stronger.

his is a great entry, like all the rest. It gives us insight into the little things that Alicia enjoys. It also shows how your are both excellent in watching the little things that add up to big signs of growth for Alicia. You both are aware of Alicia's improving eyesight. You know what to use to get her attention with both sights and sounds. I can tell you are capitalizing on her accomplishments which means you are emphazing the things she can do and not the things she can't. Alicia will have a lot of retraining and you two are learning where she can excel and where she can't. Bravo!

    Love,
    Mom L.
