December 27th 2008 - Alicia's first Christmas

We had an amazing first Christmas with Alicia! We are so excited about how great it has been. Alicia has been sick with a cold, cough and an ear infection so we were not expecting her to feel good. On the 23rd we did not see her smile on single time but she woke up on the 24th and were so much better. We have felt that she has started to do new things these last days. She is finally trying to use her arms and hands more. She is talking a lot and is using new sounds that we have not heard before. She moves around more when she lays on the floor, kicking, hitting, pushing and squirming. She is so much more alert and social.

We woke up on the 24th and were excited to open all the gifts that Ross family had sent us. Alicia got so many nice things - Clothes, toys, books... Ross and I got some really nice things as well. Thank you!!! Alicia helped unwrapping some of her gifts (with a lot of help !!) and were in a great mood. We were able to talk to Grandma and Grandpa on Skype and they could see Alicia open two of the gifts that they had given her.
In the afternoon my parents and Fredrik came over to our house for an American inspirited Christmas dinner with dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and pineapple casserole. Everybody really liked it!! Grandma and grandpa had some Christmas gifts for Alicia. A really cute outfit and Grandma had made a really nice "sense book" for Alicia were she can feel different materials. Really nice!!!!
On the 25th the whole family got together in Sjöbo at my grandparents house to celebrate Christmas. We had a great time! We eat good food, played the Christmas game and opened all the gifts. Alicia got so many nice things from everybody. We are so grateful!!

The Christmas celebration continued on the 26th. We had the "Orphans Christmas" at our house together with a bunch of friends from the footy team. Everybody brought food for the dinner and we ended up with food for a full army, but it was delicious!
Alicia showed her best side through out the Christmas and everybody got to see her on top which means a lot to Ross and I. Alicia's first Christmas was really special for us!!

Christmas seemed to have been a busy and enjoyable time for all. It sounded like fun celebrating one Christmas day after another. I don't know about you but I needed a break after all the Christmas activities.

Both pictures of Alicia are beautiful. She looks so much older in the first picture. I think that I am seeing the beautiful sensory book that Grandma Corina made for her. I'm sure that was a work of love ... plus.

Today, December 29, 2008, I spoke to Ross, Linda and Alicia. Alicia was excited and very reps onsive. It was nice to see her smaile; see her move; hear her coo and observe sitting tall. Mom and Dad are doing a great job with that little winner.

Alicia got to see my dog, Ricky on Skype. She also got to see me wave hear me chatter like a toddler. I hope she understood that I was saying that I love her.

Keep up the good work RAL (Ross, Alicia, Linda) (Ross Allen I love you.

When I wrote yesterday, I did not see the 2 pictures. I am impressed at how much she is using her arms and hands now. It won't be long until she is strong enough in those arms to start to crawl. Keep up the good work, you two!
    Love,

So good to see you 3 on skype a couple of minutes ago. Eventhough Alicia was falling asleep, we always love seeing her beautiful face. We can tell she is progressing because everytime we see her, she does something different. Ross, SueLynn and I were happy to see her putting her pacifier in her mouth by herself. This in itself is a major accomplishment. I wouldn't worry too much that she can only do it with one hand because most of us only feed ourselves with one hand!!! I loved hearing you guys and Jay and Val laughing on skype. Jay is quite a character and always has something funny to say. Ross, when you said it was cute watching Jamison run in and out of the picture, what you didn't see is that she emptied out all of her toys in her room and one by one brought them into Harley's room where the computer is. (They haven't put Harley in there yet but are getting it ready for her.)

That's it for now. Love to everyone in Sweden!
