Daddy and Alicia at Malmö Airport. Ready for the big adventure!!
We left for our big family adventure from Malmö around 12:45. Alicia took it nice and easy on the flight and slept the entire way. We arrived in Budapest around 14:00, and then took a shuttle bus into the city. When we got into the city we were let off at the drop off point on the Pest side of the city. The shuttle bus driver offered us a ride to the Hilton for 4000 forint (10 euros), but even though we knew it would be a little hike we declined. In hindsight it probably would have been the best 10 euros we ever spent. There the three of us were, Linda pushing Alicia in the stroller and me with a bookbag on my back, rolling two 20 kilo (45 pound) bags throughout Budapest. It would have been a bit easier if any of the streets had ramps at the street crossings instead of just curbs. We walked about 4 km (2.5 mi) through the Pest side of the city, then over the beautiful Chain Bridge, up a big incline hill only to come to the bottom of the Fishermen's Bastion, where we had to take Alicia and the bags up at least 100 stairs. Some of the looks we got from people were priceless. After the steps we finally arrived at the Hilton. The walk had taken a tough hour to complete.
After a much deserved shower and a beer we headed out to feast on a medieval dinner. We walked back down, almost in the exact same location as where we had originally been dropped off. Going back down the hill without the bags was much easier. The city is beautiful at night.
A medieval dinner is basically a dinner where they have a couple of different shows in a banquet hall. Some of the shows include a belly dancer, a sword fight, and other little performances. The servers are all dressed up in Medieval clothes, and they serve huge portions of food on platters. You are only supposed to eat with a knife, spoon or your hands. Unfortunately when we arrived Linda started feeling sick. Alicia enjoyed the music and I enjoyed the food.

At Medieval dinner. Mmmmm, Alicia thinks the meat looks really good...

A happy Alicia that doesn't want to go to bed. "What if I miss something??"
After dinner we walked back to the hotel and Linda started feeling a little better so Alicia, Linda and myself sat on top of the Fishermen's Bastion, chatted and looked over the glamorously lit up city. After about an hour or so it was time for bed.

Mommy and Alicia up on the Fishermen's Bastion.
Priceless Looks

I can just see everyone's expressions as you all lugged everything through the city! Sounds just like you guys to want to hike it! Can't believe all those steps on the way to the Hilton!
I like your hair cut Ross, very trendy!
Wished I´d Been There

Your trip seems so exciting and informative. Some of the best trips your mom and I had were the ones we did a lot of walking and stopping and meeting the people. It gave us tremendous understanding of the culture, environment, people, stores, landmarks and history. One trip that comes to mind is when we toured Paris. Your mom decided not to take a day off because it was such a large city. I'd much rather be in Budapest carrying Alicia up all those stairs then trying to establish a new record time. The pictures that you sent are excellent and become more valuable with your explanation. The hi-light of all of these blogs in my opinion, are the pictures of the family, the happy faces, and the healthy life that you are enjoying. I have never been to Budapest but after looking and reading your blog, I would like to visit there.
Love,
Pappa
