I think back to this summer and I realize how far Alicia has come the last 4 months. When Alicia started at daycare in August she didn't do anything. She still felt bad from all the drugs she got for the infantile spasms. She was really swollen and uncomfortable. Here is a picture taken on August 3rd, Alicia's first day of school.

A very swollen Alicia from all the medicines.
The last 4 months Alicia has worked up her muscles and she has become so much stronger. She holds her upper body so nice when she is in her walker, we are trying to get her to get control over her body in a standing position, we are training on sitting up and so on. She still needs a lot of help and support for these things, but before it would not be anything to think about. She turns around and she kicks with her legs all the time. She is starting to be more and more active with her arms as well. She recently started to lift her arms up high, which she has not done before. It's small steps in the right direction. I'm really proud over her progress!

We can also see a big change in Alicia's social behavior. It feels like she is responding more to us when we talk to her and play with her. She gives us big smiles when we pick her up at daycare, she laughs all the time and "talks" a lot. She wants to examine everything with her hands and mouth. I can't remember her ever being so "awake" and alert. When she wakes up in the mornings she lays in her bed and talks and laughs and when we come in and say good morning to her we get the biggest smile. This is probably my favorite time of the whole day. You can live of that smile for a long time!!

Early intervention is so important for Alicia. You can see it in how much she has improved since this summer. She is really speeding up her development and you two and Linda's wonderful parents are to be created for her major improvement. We can't wait to see you all in February!
